Rivals of Aether is a platformer brawler game inspired by Super Smash Bros. With the limited roster of characters, we are presented with a polished and fun fighting game by the developer Dan Fornace of Aether Studios.
The game is balanced with both the heavy hitters and the swift characters. While some characters are quite ahead in terms of speed and attack, others are hard to control in the fast-paced platformer fighting action. In this article, we have divided these characters into a tier list to help you keep a clear conception of their abilities and their ranks.
Rivals of Aether Tier List
Every veteran player has their favorite Aether fighter when it comes to dominating the platform, but it takes a lot of trial and error to reach that level of professionals. You can either choose the best-ranked fighter from the list and claim the easy victory or choose the mediocre one and take the challenging route; the choice is yours.
S-Tier
Flawless combos, incredible speed and great counter, these fighters have balanced everything, from ranged attacks to melee combat. Serious players can sharpen their fighting skills to the max and execute some sweet combos with these players. They are the META of Aether if you know how to correctly perform their moves and abilities.
Wrastor
The trick is to keep Warstor up and flying because he is a dominant aerial rival. His moves are fast and have average attack damage, but he can finish his opponent with his air combos. With his four-times jump, he can stay in the air longer.
Ori and Sein
Ori and Sein fit perfectly with each other. Ori’s main attribute is speed, and she can use it to perform melee attacks such as bash and stomp. Sein on the other hand can work from a distance to execute projectiles like spirit flames and Charge flames. With both working together, you can create a deadly combo of elemental and physical attacks with various move sets.
Magpul
While Wrastor is the air fighter, Magpul seriously damages the ground. She is a rushed player and takes the enemy by surprise with her teleport abilities. She is one interesting character if you are a rapid player who wants to rain down a barrage of attacks on your opponent.
Absa
She is the lightning queen and one of the stubborn character in-game. It is hard to control her due to her different styles of attacks and skills. Mastering her can be daunting but extremely rewarding, as she is untouchable in the hands of skilled players. She is known for her cloud attacks that cover any long-range area between Absa and the cloud.
A-Tier
Fighters under the A tier list are not as overpowered. But they can kick anybody out of the platform. One can take their fighting skill to the next level and keep improving because these fighters have a lot of potential if players can invest time training with them.
Zetterberg
He is the king of fire with a blazing fist and mane of fire. He is very fast on the ground and does heavy damage at close range. If you are good at executing combos, then choosing Zetterburn as a Maine can benefit you. He can knock enemies with his long chain of combos.
Ranno
Ranno is a toad with element of water in his arsenal of attacks. He is quick with his short-range attacks both in-ground and in the air. His poison dart is very effective in trapping opponents for additional damage.
Elliana
Elliana is a reptilian who uses mech to battle on air and ground as well. She is an aerial character as she can hover around the air, launch exploding fists, and guide missiles and smoke clouds that do continuous damage to the opponent. However, players should watch out for mech overheating as it temporarily disables attacks that use heat to execute.
Hodan
Hodan is a water-type ape created by Team NeRVe from the Rivals of Aether Workshop. He is a big, heavy fighter dealing tons of damage with his charge attacks. His elemental attacks use hot water and steam to deal some serious damage.
Mollo
Mollo is the latest entry to the roster of characters and the only character that uses bombs to set up traps within the platform. With his bombs and deployable explosion, he can knock back enemies from a distance. He also uses bursts in his series of combos.
B-Tier
While higher-tier fighters are easy to control and master, fighters under B-tier require players’ dedication and time to learn their actions. It takes sheer skill to perfectly execute the fighter’s moves, under this tier.
Claire
Claire can execute chained combos while stunning her opponent with the sword. She is a black panther that uses fire elements to deal damage to opponents. Claire is a difficult character to deal with if you are on the receiving side, but once you know her moves, you can easily counterattack with a close-range attack because her knockback is not that great.
Forsberg
Frostburg is very good at deceiving enemies, as he can create clones of himself. He is a hyena that uses the element of smoke. His attacks are mostly utility that helps him during combat, such as smokescreen to obscure opponents within the battle and combust to raise attack damage and knockback abilities.
Etalus
Etalus is an icicle beast that uses ice to gain momentum and freezes enemies to chain additional ice combos. He is one of the heavy characters with slow movements but heavy attacks. Although he is great at performing deadly attacks, he is also vulnerable to opponent attacks because of his large hitbox.
Pomme
She is a glamorous mouse who uses musical notes to attack opponents. She is most known for her aerial attack, as she can stay afloat and charge enemies with her own special attacks.
Olympia
An original character created in Rivals of Aether Workshop by Sprite Star, Olympia is now an official playable character who uses crystals to deal effective damage against opponents. She is the slowest character both on land and in the air making her vulnerable while landing. Although she is great at chaining combos, her attacks are easily parable.
C-Tier
Fighters under the C tier list are slow with limited amounts of skills. Don’t get me wrong, they are great fighters but compared to some super fast characters like Ori, they lack pretty much everything from speed to attack. You can still choose to play these characters in a casual match, but I would not prefer them in a ranked match.
Shovel Knight
Shovel Knight might be great at his game, but not in Rival of Aether because his attacks are slow and winding, giving the opponent enough time to counter-attack. His ability can be used to dig up treasure, but the downside is that his opponent can pick it up if he fails to do so.
Kragg
He is excellent in the defensive aspect, but he leans too much towards the attacks making him weak against most, if not all, the opponents within the game. His abilities can be used to keep him grounded, but it is not very effective against skilled players as his opponent can anticipate Kraggs attack and use it against him.
Sylvanus
He is a plant-based wolf with a large body. It makes him an easy target for combos and special attacks. Sylvanus is a tough fighter to control with his dash and agile maneuverability. Regardless of his heavy attacks and speed, he is not so good at taking damage, thus making him the lowest-ranked fighter in the game.
