DotA fans are introduced to Viceroy Kashurra in the DotA 2 anime, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Book Two as one of the associates of Mirana, a very popular hero in the game. When he is first introduced, he is presented as a friendly allied character who helped Mirana escape the Helio Imperium and is currently working as her advisor.
At first glance, he seems like a pretty nice guy and is portrayed as a father figure to the Priestess of the Moon, Mirana. But this persona of him fades away very quickly as we get to see more of him in the later episodes of the series.
More secrets about him start to unfold, revealing his true identity and end goals. This is also where we find out that he is one of the prime antagonists in the series.
Dragon’s Blood’s original character, Kashurra’s story gets deeper and more mysterious as we progress through the series. So who is he really? And why is his character so important in the series?
Well, for starters, he is a Void Dragon, who long ago got sentience after being exposed to both Radiant and Dire ores. This event gave him a voice and the ability to take human form but also left him corrupted in the process.
Currently, he believes that Mirana is a descendant of the Worldwyrm, and wants to draw out her full powers by any means necessary. We also find out that everything he has done to this point was all for this purpose.
To put his plans into motion, he sends the Bounty Hunter named Vinari to kill Minari and sets up a plot to name Lina as the new ruler of the Imperium. Kashurra hoped that by doing so, Mirana would be infuriated by his actions, which will then lead to unleashing her powers.
Later on, it is also revealed that he was the one responsible for the death of Mirana’s parents. When every one of his schemes fails on drawing out the power of Light from within Mirana, he kills Marci which would then go on to act as the final push button for Mirana.
Seeing her closest companion killed in front of her eyes, Mirana finally loses her control and unleashes her true powers. She then destroys Kashurra, and he is finally able to rejoin the Light, which was his true purpose all along.
