There’re Vaults on the Fortnite island—the place where you can find Mythic and legendary weapons, ammo, health, juice, keys, and other useful tools.
For example, the high-level items I’ve found the most are a Legendary Slap Juice and the Enhanced Havoc Shotgun—a mythic weapon that may deal 155 points of damage per hit.
You need a Vault Keycard to enter a Vault, and that is not something to loot. Rather, you take it from particular enemy NPCs. Then, you can use the keycard to find and open the Vault.
There’s another secret Vault on the island, and you need regular keys to open it. You find keys as regular loot or by selecting the Keymaster Augment.
Where to Find the Vaults?
There’re three Vaults to loot, and the locations are:
- Megacity
- Shattered Slabs
- Brutal Bastion
Most probably, you won’t be able to open more than two Vaults per match. Other players may kill the NPCs and open the Vault before you do, and take the best loot before you even notice.
In any case, your first job to open a Vault is going to one of these three locations. You can choose any as a landing area, but you will have to defeat other players for survival.
You don’t need to find the Vaults yourself. Instead, you need to defeat an enemy Boss NPC and loot an item. The Item (Vault Keycard) will point toward the Vault and open it.
The fourth and secret Vault is on Loot Island, the floating island that spawns randomly on the map.
You’ll hear a noticeable sound whenever the floating island appears. If you look to the sky at that moment, you’d probably see it spawn in real-time.
The island will also create a map marker on the island, which makes it easier to find it. Once you approach it, you’d have to interact with zip lines or a Rift to climb.
As this Vault has no keycard, you need to find it yourself. The Vault is on the island’s lower level, within the wooden walls.
Just follow the corridor until you reach the large steel door (no mercy to other players)
The Loot Island Secret Vault needs two keys to open. Interact with each lock to use a key and unlock the area.
How to Open the Vault?
To open the Vault on Shattered Slabs, Megacity, or Brutal Bastion, you need a Vault Keycard. Only Wild Card Bosses (High Card) drop these items, and they will spawn in the same locations where you’ll find the Vaults.
These are enemy NPCs wielding assault rifles and 100 points of shield. Two minor NPCs (Wild Card Suits) in white suits follow them. They hit hard, and they have high maneuverability, but they don’t have much accuracy.
Moreover, you need to take them down twice. The first time you beat them, they will crawl on the floor. If you leave them alone by this point, they will regenerate their HP and shields and hunt you down.
After you defeat the three enemies, pick up the Vault Keycard from the main enemy (the one with a black suit). Picking the key will immediately point you toward the vault on your interface. Follow the instructions until you reach the vault.
You have to equip the Vault Keycard to see the instructions on how to reach the Vault.
The Vault is a large steel door with a terminal on the side. Interact with the terminal to open it with your Vault Keycard. On Loot Island, you should also interact with the terminal to open the Vault with a regular key.
Finally, enter the vault and loot all of its chests.
Lastly, as we said, the Loot Island Vault requires two keys, and you can use the button (“E” on PC) to unlock each of its electronic locks.
Where to Find the Wild Card NPCs?
Wild CardNPCs may take a while to spawn after you reach a certain area, but there’re some tricks to find them.
First, the Megacity NPCs always spawn around the same spot. Whenever they do, a blue marker will appear on your interface alongside a blue marker on the map.
You can go to the site I marked on the map above and camp until the Highcard appears. It has a bus in the middle of the street.
Whenever they appear, you’ll see a Highcard marker pointing you toward the enemy.
The Wild Card NPCs on Brutal Bastion are walking on the streets, usually around the Capture Point. There’s no Capture Point on Megacity, though, so the enemies could be harder to find.
Lastly, the special NPCs on Shattered Slabs are around or within the Vault lair. You can access the base by going down a hole.
Check the image below to see the exact location of the hole:
The NPC location in Shattered Slabs is more reliable. Moreover, the location is less popular, so it makes it a very good spot to start your Vault Hunting journey.
In Summary
- Land on either Shattered Slabs, Megacity, or Brutal Bastion, or travel to the location before the storm cuts you off
- Roam around the area until you find the Wild Card NPCs
- Defeat the NPCs and loot the Vault Key
- Equip the Vault Key
- Follow the arrows to the Vault
- Interact with the terminal to open the Vault
- Loot the chests
