Elden Ring is an open-world game full of secrets and surprises. There are multiple locations in the game that can be unlocked only after defeating bosses guarding them. Unlocking such areas would give you access to tons of new weapons and other items.
One such location is the Grand Lift of Rold. But before reaching there, player has to pass through the Rold Route defeating The Omen King, Morgott .
If you have already entered Atlus Plateau by acquiring and holding two Dectus tablets in the Grand Lift of Dectus, you would be doing the same here. But this time, you need to acquire the Rold medallion to open the next area, which is the snow land region of Elden ring.
How to Get to the Rold Route Elden Ring
It’s a long process that requires platforming into various levels of Lyndell. Follow these guidelines and you will reach a snowy region without having to deal with Labyrinth.
This content will guide you through Capital city to defeating the two bosses and finally opening the Rold Route to reveal the Consecrated Snowfield region. Let’s Begin.
Lyndell, Royal Capital
I believe you have already entered Leyndell, Royal Capital. If not, head to the northeast part of the Altus Plateau region, where you will also find the map of the Altus Plateau. Then head to the train looking at things on the map, which is the pre-entrance of Leyndell, Royal Capital.
Why do I need to Enter Lyndell, you say? Because Only after entering Lyndell can you proceed further. Don’t worry; I won’t be guiding you through every dungeon, swear and boss within Leyndell, a very necessary location to enter the Rold Route.
You will encounter a Draconic tree sentinel guarding the entrance of Lyndell once you reach the northeast part of the map, kill him, and head to the Capital Rampart site of grace.
From here, you need to reach East Capital Rampart. Just take the lift and run along the corridor, and you will come across a deep chasm. Take it right now; you have reached the East Capital Rampart.
East Capital Rampart to Avenue Balcony.
Once you exit the room, you can view the beautiful golden city of Lyndell with a huge dragon statue at the front. Head left from there, where you will encounter a bunch of Oracle Envoy. They are white and goofy-looking Marshmellow enemies with a horn type of weapons which they blow to inflict bubble damage.
Once you pass through Oracle Envoy, you will encounter a broken statue of an enemy stuck in the ground, guarding the door and spewing fire. When you two are on the same platform, look down to the right, and you will see another platform where you can jump. Jump on the balcony and then the golden rooftop.
Keep moving to the northwest, jumping on the golden roof until you see the carriage right from the chapel. Drop down to the street and head southwest. You know you are in the right direction when a giant tree enemy falls from the sky. The enemy is like the next version of Erdtree Avatar with a golden weapon.
Dont mind the enemy, you just have to go through the right open gate down the stairs, and you will have a site of grace waiting for you. Now, this is the most important site of grace because once you defeat Morgott the Omen King, you have to teleport to this site of grace located in the Avenue Balcony.
Path to Godfrey, First Elden Lord
Now that you are at Avenue Balcony, head down, and you will find an archer with a longbow. Defeat him and start climbing the giant dragon wing until you see an opening where you will find a ladder to climb up.
After climbing up the ladder, head straight to the other end of the hallway, where you will find another site of grace. It’s the West Capital Rampart site of grace.
Don’t forget to enable the summoning pool because you will have to defeat a boss ahead. Pick up the golden seed surrounded by Oracle Envoy, and if you want to, you can defeat the giant Gargoyle to obtain Gargoyle’s Halberd.
You can see a tree branch sticking out of the ground when you pass through Gargoyle. Keep on climbing the branch up to the balcony where you will encounter the boss, Godfrey, First Elden Lord.
He is the spirit of Godfrey, and defeating him will grant you access to the next location. Here’s how you defeat Godfrey.
How to Defeat Godfrey, First Elden Lord?
His attacks are heavy but slow, so you have plenty of time to dodge his attacks. Memorize his attack pattern because he swings and also slams the ground with his dual axe.
He has this massive area of effect attack where he stomps on the ground and raises stones from the ground. It’s pretty simple to dodge this attack since he takes half a second to raise his legs and stomp it on the ground.
This gives us a clear window to dodge his stomp attack. Make sure to roll sideways because his stone spike has range and will get you if you roll back.
You can use your powerful summon if you have used sprint tuning on your favorite summon. Or else, you can use Greatshield Soldiers to distract Godfrey so that you can attack from behind.
Keep an eye on your health, as he can deplete almost half of your health with his attacks. Once you defeat him, the fog will be cleared, and you can proceed to the next level.
Path to Morgott, the Omen King
Remember, we are here to acquire Rold Medallion, and that is only possible by defeating Morgott, the Omen King. Let’s head to the next location where you will encounter this boss.
After you defeat Godfrea, the fog will disappear, revealing another location from the balcony where you can see several dead finger maidens. Head to the right and climb the roots of the Erdtree that turns back to the room but the inner balcony.
Run past all the dead finger maidens into the Queen’s Bedchamber; You might want to rest upon grace before dealing with the black knife assassin. After resting on the Queen’s Bedchamber site of grace, you can either finish the Black Knife Assassin or head to the boss location just ahead.
How to defeat Morgott, the Omen King?
If you are struggling against Morgott, then you will need one item to defeat Morgott, and that is Margit’s Shackle. Yes, you can also use this item effectively against Morgott too.
You can purchase this item from Patches in Murkwater Cave after letting him live. Should you have killed him, then you will need to offer Patche’s ball bearing to Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold. Then you can purchase the item for five thousand Runes.
His attacks are a little delayed, which will trick you into dodging pretty early. Just like Margit, he has a magical hammer and sword, but his attacks are aggressive, and he does combos that can kill you if you get caught in it. He also has a magical spear that he throws from a distance.
That was his first phase. In his second phase, he will erupt a pool of magic that will deplete your health, and now, he has increased elemental damage that inflicts rot, bleeding, and death. You need to be careful not to get caught in the erupting magical flame.
If you are a Dex build, then attack him from the right side, where he has nothing in his hand but keep a certain distance if he brings out his magical hammer or sword. For Strength build, I recommend jumping attack and rolling away from him until he gets stunned. A jump attack will make some of his blade attacks miss while he swings his blade horizontally.
After defeating him, a site of grace will appear in the middle of the arena. This is where you receive the Rold Medallion from Melina.
To the Grand Lift of Rold
You need to activate the Rold Medallion in the Grand Lift of Rold to reveal the Mountaintops of the Giants. Now that you have acquired the Rold Medallion teleport to the Avenue Balcony site of grace.
From the grace site, go up to the street where you encounter the tree-looking giant enemy. Run past him and open the big door at the end of the street. Proceed to climb up the stairs, and you will reach an elevator.
Go up the elevator, and there will be a long bridge leading to another elevator. This elevator will bring you down into the Forbidden Lands, where you will find the site of grace at the entrance.
Forbidden lands are full of snow and mist with less view distance. You can watch the map from time to time if you think you are lost. You don’t want to fight enemies here because they are pretty strong. Just ride your horse through a narrow platform until you Black Blade Kindred Boss.
There is a grace site nearby once you pass through the boss. After you rest at the grace site, proceed to go up the stairs and activate the Grand Lift of Rold with Rold Medallion. When activated, the entire platform will elevate, revealing Mountaintops of the Giants.
