Dota Plus shards are important in-game currency in Dota 2 that you can use to purchase exclusive sets, treasures and relics. However, unlike the in-game currencies of other games, they have to be earned by playing the game rather than be purchased with real money.
There are various ways to earn Dota Plus shards as both free-to-play players and Dota Plus subscribers. We have prepared a detailed list of all the methods for you to gather tons of Shards.
Complete Welcome and Seasonal Quests
When you first purchase a Dota Plus subscription, you’ll be presented with lots of options that will earn you Dota Plus shards.
One of these options is completing all the Welcome Quests. They are one-time quests that are really easy to complete and you can earn up to 20,000 shards by completing all of them.
There is also another type of quest called Seasonal Quests that is updated once per every ranked season. These quests are a little difficult but they also reward you handsomely for completing them.
To tell you the exact figure, you can earn up to 100,000 Dota Plus shards for completing the seasonal quests. So, make sure to complete them before it gets reset.
Level Up Your Heroes
Apart from unlocking cool new badges and voice-lines for each hero, you can also get quite a bit of Dota Plus shards when you level up your heroes.
Speaking of leveling up your heroes, there are different ways to do that but the one I’d recommend is completing all three challenges from the hero page.
These challenges can be refreshed once every two weeks so you’ll have plenty of time to complete them. However, they are also only completed if you win the match.
You can select only one of the three challenges at the beginning of the match and each challenge has three difficulty levels so you may need to grind quite a bit.
Completing quests gives you the exp to level up your heroes. The reward for leveling up the heroes starts from 1300 shards per level but you can get up to 4800 shards after reaching the Master tier.
You’ll also unlock various badges by leveling up your heroes. Unlocking a higher-level badge will reward you with more shards per level.
You can level up your heroes to level 5 for free but for additional levels, you need to subscribe to Dota Plus.
Win Matches
You can earn a small amount of shard by winning three of your matches every week. This will give you 1000 shards.
I know this isn’t much but you can get it for just winning your match so there isn’t really much to complain about. Non-Dota Plus subscribers will only get 500 shards.
You can also get 50 shards for completing a match and an additional 50 shards if you managed to win the match.
Unlike the above 1000 shards, this one is unlimited so you can actually earn quite a lot if you play this game a lot.
Complete Guild Contracts
There are a lot of benefits to joining a guild in dota 2. Besides getting your hands on exclusive chat lines and emoticons, this is also a way for you to earn some extra shards.
All guild members can select one contract to complete every day and if you’re a Dota Plus subscriber, you’ll be able to select two of them.
Completing these contracts will earn you Guild exp and Dota Plus shards. You’ll also get bonus shards based on the current standings of your guild.
Play Battle Cup
Another way to earn lots of Dota Plus shards is by playing and winning the weekend Battle Cup tournament.
Dota Plus subscribers can participate in this tournament for free but other players need to purchase weekend Battle Cup tickets to participate.
You can either play this event with your friends who have Dota Plus subscriptions or with other Dota Plus subscribers.
Winning this event will reward you and your teammates with 20,000 shards each along with several other rewards.
Besides these, you can also earn shards by successfully predicting your victory and by receiving tips from other players while in the match. You can also earn them by creating your own fantasy roster.
