Parrots are those rare colorful creatures with many quirky features. It copes with other mobs’ voices, sits on your shoulders, and best of all, dances to the beat of a Jukebox.
If you’ve tried the traditional method of breeding parrots by providing them with various seeds, but they still don’t mate like the rest of the mobs? I’m afraid I have some bad news for you.
Mojang has not included the ability to breed parrots in the game. This may change in future updates, but for now, we can only find and tame these colorful birds in jungle biomes.
Why Can’t I Breed Parrots in Minecraft ?
When the parrots were first introduced in the Minecraft 1.12 update, players could breed them by feeding them cookies instead of seeds, but this had an unintended consequence in the real world because chocolate chips are toxic to parrots.
Many players objected to this, and Mojang was forced to back down and change the feature as mimicking game acts is very common these days.
Now, if anyone feeds the cookies to the parrots, they would die instantly. As a result, the breeding feature became the killing one, and no alternate breeding feature has been added since.
However there is a way, you can spawn parrots in Minecraft. You can get a randomly colored parrot using this method.
How to Spawn Parrots in Minecraft
You can spawn parrots using parrot spawn eggs or by using commands. The traditional way is only valid for the Creative Mode whereas you can get eggs in both modes using cheats.
Parrots in Minecraft come in five different colors, and you can spawn all five of them with spawn eggs. These eggs randomly spawn birds of any color once you throw them. But before that, you need to get your hands on those eggs first.
Spawn Eggs in Creative Mode
To get parrot’s eggs in Creative Mode,
- Press ‘E‘ to open the inventory.
- On the search panel, type “Parrot“.
- A list with available parrot eggs comes up, drag and drop the eggs on the open space at the left hand side of your screen.
- After that, close your inventory and pick up those dropped eggs.
Now, to spawn parrots from those eggs,
- Select the egg from the inventory.
- Right click on the ground holding the egg where you want to spawn the parrot.
Spawn Eggs Using Cheats
However, the workaround to spawn eggs in your inventory in Survival Mode is a bit more trickier. First you need to activate cheats from settings. This works for both Creative and Survival mode. The command varies as per the version of the game you are playing.
To spawn eggs in your inventory using cheats, Press T and insert the following commands:
- For Minecraft Java Edition for PC and MAC 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, 1.16, 1.17, 1.18, 1.18.1, 1.18.2, 1.19 and 1.19.1 use
/give @p parrot_spawn_egg 1
- For Minecraft Java Edition for PC and MAC 1.12 use
/give @p spawn_egg 1 0 {EntityTag:{id:parrot}}
Now to spawn the parrots, follow the same method as done above.
FAQs
How Can I Find Parrots in Minecraft ?
The one and only option to collect these beautiful birds in survival mode is by exploring the jungle biomes and spotting and taming them. Make sure you have enough seeds as some birds are very hard to tame and may require a lot of seeds. After the birds are tamed, you will see a red heart icon floating on their head.
And as parrots are normally found in groups, it is easier to find more in the vicinity if you spot just one.
How Many Parrots Are There in Minecraft?
There are five types of parrots with different colors. Parrots come in cyan, green, red, blue, and gray. Although they are different visually, they all have the exact attributes.
Summing it up, we just hope Mojang brings more colorful parrots with a mating option so we can have a dance party at my place, making all the parrots wiggle. This is it for now. Do comment below if we have missed anything.
