Fashion Souls and Elden Bling, these are common terms floating around in the forums of Elden Ring. In souls games people have long worn armor not for protection, but for fashion. You need to show off your moves in style. There is no other way.
Elden Ring adds further into the design of armor by making some of them alterable. These altered armor and helmets lose some of their additional stats in exchange of, you guessed it, style.
Style is the most powerful invisible stat that an armor can give you. Especially if you are someone who is focused on the PvP scene of the Elden Ring. If you look good, you can be caught dead gloriously. Look bad and you risk a shameful style less death.
Helmets and Body Armor are the ones that can be altered in the Elden Ring. There are a total of 68 pieces of armor you can alter in the 1.08 version of the game. The look of some armor changes drastically, while some only undergo minor visual differences. Most body armor have their capes removed as alterations. Helmets usually have their hoods removed.
The stats of armor also change when you alter them. Generally, all altered armors have their weight reduced. In exchange, the resistance stats of all altered armors are lesser than their unaltered counterparts.

How to Alter Armor in the Elden Ring?
The easiest and earliest way you can alter your armor is by obtaining the Sewing Needle and Tailoring Tools. Both of these are key items. You can get them after defeating the duo of demi human bosses in West of Limgrave. It’s a tricky boss fight but you can cheese it using sneaky strategies.
After you have obtained the Sewing Needle and Tailoring Tools, go ahead and follow the instructions.
- Rest at the Site of Grace and navigate to the “Alter garments” option.
- Inside this menu, only alterable armor will be shown. Choose and select an armor.
- Pay 500 runes and the alteration will be complete. You can reverse the alteration using the same method if you don’t like your new look.
Four Best Alterable Helmets in Elden Ring
Festive Hood
The unaltered version of Festive Hood has a cloth cover that rather dampens its festive spirit. When altered the headpiece now looks exactly what one would wear when going to a rave.
Nox Monk Hood
Unaltered version of this hood looks rather concealing. After alteration the hood resembles a Ninja Headgear. Way cooler.
Eccentric’s Hood
Unaltered Eccentric’s Hood looks like a sage or a beggar with its raggedy head covering cloth. Altered Eccentric’s Hood reveals a shiny helmet underneath.
Commoner’s Headband
Apparently this is what commoners used to wear from day to day in the Lands Between. It might be subjective, but the altered headband looks way better when the cloth is gone.
Twelve Best Alterable Armors in Elden Ring
Alberich’s Robe
This robe looks really flashy with the red glintstones studded in the cape. The alteration makes it look rather sleek. It looks more sophisticated without the mantle and cape.
Black Knife Armor
A really good looking armor. Even with the hood. It has an air of mystery around it. Your footsteps make no sound while wearing this.
Once the hood is removed, the majestic shoulder piece is revealed. The silence of footsteps is removed post alteration in exchange for more style points.
Blaidd’s Armor
This is the majestic armor worn by Blaidd, protector of Ranni the Witch. Once the feral looking cape is removed, the intricate carvings underneath are feast for eyes.
Blue Silver Mail Armor
This is already handsome looking armor. The covering cloth looks regal. Once altered it looks like the cooler version of Mithril mail worn by Frodo in Lord of the Rings.
Depraved Perfumer Robe
This is one of those that looks better unaltered. The fur cape compliments what’s underneath. Altered version is quite colorful and fully reveals the robe’s embroidery.
Fia’s Robe
It’s worn by Deathbed Companion Fia during her exile from Lands Between. Fia’s Robe looks classy once altered. It looks less overbearing than the unaltered version.
Fingerprint Armor
This is Vyke’s armor, He is the bowing knight character on the cover art of Elden Ring. He got closest to the title of Elden Lord post Shattering. Alter the Fingerprint Armor and uncover the knightly aesthetics hidden beneath the cape.
Gravekeeper Cloak
Cloaked body armor completely hides the hard work you put on your character’s look. Altered piece doesn’t have a cloak. It’s rather revealing but gracefully feminine looking armor.
Malenia’s Armor
This is one of the best looking armors out there. Worn by Malenia, it retains her signature look. Remove the cloak and the exposed shoulder makes this armor look rather pleasing to eyes.
Night’s Cavalry Armor
If you want to become a dark knight of the Elden Ring, then this is the armor you want. After alteration, the ragged cloth cape is gone. The Stark black color revealed makes it perfect for a prowl at night.
Perfumer Robe
This robe has one of the best Vitality and Focus stats. It is perfect for casters. Alteration ditches the headgear and reveals the embroidery in the back.
Veteran’s Armor
This is one of the most defensive armors in the game. It has the best weight to poise ratio. If the unaltered Veteran Armor is too heavy for you, altered Veteran Armor has its weight reduced.
