As an old school gamer, I kept on saving the game and reloading the save till everything went right. It’s a standard gamer habit to save before a huge bossfight and reload if we lose. I was honestly shocked when I found out saving does not work how it traditionally does in the Souls franchise.
In most of the FromSoftware titles, the game automatically saves when you exit the game. That way you cannot reload from a custom save. It is to ensure every decision the player makes counts. This same save system is used in the Elden Ring.
In Elden Ring you cannot save before a big battle and reload if you lose all your runes (in game currency). You cannot reload if you accidentally kill a friendly NPC you weren’t supposed to kill. No gamer shenanigans are allowed here.
The quick answer is, there is no way to manually save in Elden Ring. The game constantly autosaves your playthrough without informing you. Even though the game does the saving for you, let’s still learn when you can trigger a manual save of your progress.
Steps to Save in Elden Ring
- Press the button that takes you to the menu.
- On PlayStation: Press Options Button.
- On Xbox: Press the Menu Button.
- On PC: Press the Esc Key.
- On PlayStation: Press Options Button.
- On all platforms, go to the “System” option. It is on the bottom of the list.
- On all platforms, you will find the “Quit Game” tab. It is in the end. Here you can choose any option, Quit Game or Return to Desktop to save the game and exit your current playthrough.
Selecting “Quit Game” will take you to the main menu where you can reload your other characters’ last save. You can also change game settings from the main menu of the game.
Does Force Quitting Save Progress in the Elden Ring?
If you choose to force close the game, Elden ring will load from the last autosave automatically when you load your file. You will also be warned not to do so and to close the game by going to the menu properly.
How to Force Close the Elden Ring?
Sometimes, you will have to force close the game. Reasons might be, you are playing it at work, and you hear your boss’ footsteps. Sometimes you might get trapped in a glitch or a bug.
Another reason could be when you are getting smashed by someone annoying in PvP and you don’t want to register your loss. In these situations, the only option you have is to quickly close the game.
In Xbox:
- Press the Xbox button on the controller.
- Find the name of the game on the left of the screen and press the Menu button on the controller.
- Select Quit.
For PlayStation:
